Privacy Policy

FrenchWrite is built to collect as little data as possible. Your writing stays on your device. This page explains exactly what does and doesn't touch a server — including our contact form and the ads that help keep the tools free.

Effective date: 5 July 2026
Plain English summary

FrenchWrite has no user accounts and no visitor-tracking analytics. Everything you write in the editor and other language tools is saved only in your own browser's localStorage and never sent to us. If you use the contact form, we store your message, name, email, and IP address so we can reply and prevent spam. FrenchWrite shows ads served by Google AdSense, which may use cookies to personalise ads and measure performance — where required (for example in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland) we ask for your consent first via a consent banner, and you can change your choice at any time.

1. Who we are

FrenchWrite is a free, browser-based French writing tool available at frenchwrite.com. For questions about this policy, contact us at contact@frenchwrite.com.

2. Data collected by our writing tools

FrenchWrite's writing and language tools — the editor, word counter, verb conjugator, gender checker, synonyms lookup, typing test, and the TCF/TEF practice tools — do not collect any of the following:

  • Your name, email address or any form of account information
  • The text you write in the editor
  • Your IP address or approximate location
  • Browser fingerprints or device identifiers
  • Usage statistics, clicks or behavioural analytics
  • Cookies set directly by FrenchWrite's own code (see "Advertising & cookies" below for cookies set by our advertising partner)

There is no analytics platform (e.g. Google Analytics, Mixpanel) tracking your use of these tools.

3. Contact form data

If you use the contact form, we collect the information you provide — your name, email address, subject, and message — along with your IP address and browser user-agent string. We use this to reply to you and to prevent spam and abuse (a simple rate limit keyed to your IP address).

This information is stored in our database and is only ever seen by the FrenchWrite team. It is never sold, shared with advertisers, or used for marketing. You can ask us to delete your message at any time by emailing contact@frenchwrite.com.

4. Local storage (auto-save)

FrenchWrite uses your browser's localStorage to auto-save your text, your preferred theme (light/dark) and your word goal. This data:

  • Never leaves your device
  • Is never transmitted to any server
  • Can be deleted at any time by clearing your browser's site data or clicking the Clear button in the editor

localStorage is a browser-native feature, set directly by FrenchWrite's own code. It is separate from the advertising cookies described below, which are set by our ad partner, not by us.

5. Advertising & cookies (Google AdSense)

FrenchWrite displays ads served by Google AdSense, which helps cover the cost of keeping every tool free. AdSense and its partners may use cookies, device identifiers, and similar technologies to serve ads and measure how well they perform, and some ads may be personalised based on your browsing activity.

Where consent is legally required — for example if you are visiting from the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland — a consent banner is shown before any non-essential advertising cookie is set. You can accept, reject, or customise your choice, and change your decision at any time by clearing your browser's cookies for this site or revisiting the consent banner. Outside regions with a mandatory consent requirement, ads may load without a prior consent prompt, consistent with applicable local law.

Google's own use of data is governed by Google's policies, not by FrenchWrite. You can read Google's Privacy Policy and manage your Google ad personalisation settings directly at adssettings.google.com.

6. Other third-party requests

Google Fonts

FrenchWrite loads typefaces (Playfair Display, Lora, DM Mono) from fonts.googleapis.com on first page load. This request is made by your browser directly to Google's servers. Google may log your IP address as part of serving the font files. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for details.

7. Children's privacy

FrenchWrite's writing and language tools collect no personal data and are safe for use by children of all ages, including in classroom settings.

FrenchWrite as a whole is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA), and we do not knowingly serve personalised advertising to children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through our contact form, please email contact@frenchwrite.com and we will delete it.

8. Changes to this policy

If we ever introduce a change that affects your privacy (for example, adding an analytics tool or changing our advertising partners), we will update this page and revise the effective date at the top. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of FrenchWrite after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

9. Contact

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, please email us at contact@frenchwrite.com. We will do our best to respond within 5 business days.
